Week 9 - Starting Off Project: Lips

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is well!

Welcome to week 9 (already!) of The SO Project (#theSOproject). The category this week is Lipgloss/Lipstick!

From Left: Collection 2000 Cream Puff Lip Cream; The Body Shop; No 7 Stay Perfect Lipstick; Sleek' L'Oreal Paris GlamShine Stain Splash; Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

Now who doesn’t love some fabulous lip colours!

For the past few years my preference has switched from Lipgloss to Lipsticks.

However, recently there has been some lovely lipglosses that have been released that excludes those aspects of the gloss that tend to put people off… such as the stickiness of the product!

I recently found out that lipsticks are believed to have originated from Ancient Mesopotamian women. They crushed gemstones to decorate their lips! Another interesting fact is that a British law was proposed to the Parliament in 1770 that a marriage should be annulled if one wore cosmetics before her wedding day… wonder what would happen if that law existed today?!

Lipglosses are a type of product that provides shine and sheen with a dash of colour to the lips.
Lipglosses were invented in the 1930’s by Max Factor. They were created to make lips appear glossy on film. Today the formulation of lipglosses can also be moisturising and provide SPF protection against UV rays.

Choosing your lip product
Today lip products exist in many different shades and come in a variety of packaging.

I think a nice place to start when choosing a shade would be to select one you would be comfortable wearing.

I found that starting off with a sheer lipgloss and progressing from there to lip products with a hint of colour worked well.

For a day time look, I think that a nice subtle shade such as peaches and pinks are lovely whilst reds and plums are great for evenings.

Remember to balance your lip product with the rest of the makeup you are wearing!
If you have heavy eye make up then balance the look with a subtle lip shade and vice versa.

But do bare in mind that makeup is an expression of you… so don’t let rules dictate what you should or shouldn’t wear… you rock whatever shade you wish girl!

I will be doing separate posts to review the lipsticks and glosses. Would love to know which products you would like to read about.

What are your favourite lipglosses or lipsticks? Any recommendations? :)

  4. Did not know about some of the 'fun facts'! (Didn't know about the Mesopotamian one!, so gonna do a quick Google)

I agree though, lipglosses can be quite sticky sometimes, and it's a bit of a deterrent!

It's nice to see how they originated and developed over the years into the products we wear and love today.

  6. The trivia at the start is so interesting. I can't believe cosmetics on your wedding day was almost made illegal! I also nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award, I hope you get time to take part!
