Week 2- Starting Off: Concealer

Hi everyone!

It is now week 2 of the Starting Off project (#theSOproject) and the category for this week is Concealer.

Up until recently I too was relatively new to the world of Concealers since I was simply dedicated to foundations! I will now share my experiences with you and hopefully this can help you along the way.

What are Concealers?
Concealers are a type of cosmetic that masks the appearance of certain marks/ imperfections on your skin which you would like to conceal. It can be used to cover dark circles, redness, discolouration and other blemishes as well as even out skin tone and brighten up the face.

This post will include two concealers from the brand Eyes, Lips, Face or otherwise known as E.L.F.

The Complete Coverage Concealer from E.L.F comes in a very sleek packaging. The compact case contains a mini concealer brush and four different tones which can be easily blended to achieve a shade which would be more suitable to cover the different marks/ blemishes you would like to cover. I would say that it gives medium to high coverage.

The second concealer that I have been using and absolutely adore is the E.L.F. All Over Cover Stick.

Easy to apply and blend, this little beauty is a joy to use! It comes in a very cute ‘twist’ stick/ tube packaging. I would say that it gives medium to high coverage. This concealer also contains Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 15 to protect your skin from damage in the sun.

It does have a relatively strong scent, but this almost disappears when applied to the skin and since it does a great job I have not really minded this aspect of it.

Directions for use
Depending on the area on your skin you would like to cover, e.g. under the eyes dark circles or cover up acne etc, choose a shade which would be most suited for that area. For instance, a yellow/ warm toned concealer would be best for covering up under eye circles. I usually choose the one which best matches my skin tone.

1)
Firstly wash your face and moisturise. You really would not want to apply concealer without having first moisturised… it would simply be too drying.

2)
Apply your concealer in the areas which require a little help such as acne scars or blemishes.
Blend the product gently so that there is no obvious change in the tone of your skin.
You can either use a concealer brush or your fingers to do this.
Frankly, I find it a easier to apply concealer with my fingers as it enables me to blend out the product nicely.

3)
If you use foundation, you can now apply this.
Otherwise we can now set the concealer using the powder of your choice. I like to set my concealer to prevnt it it appearing greasy/ shiny.
This step can also make the concealer last longer during the course of the day.

Tips
You can apply some conclear on the centre of your nose for contouring and slightly under your brow for highlighting that area.

The E.L.F. Complete Coverage Concealer retails for £3.75 and the All Over Cover Stick £1.50.

My absolute favourite is the All Over Cover Stick and for the price I think it is definitely worth checking out… especially if you are unsure whether concealers are something you would be interested in.
